A Certain MARITES Vandalized Wikipedia to "Prove" that the Chiong Sisters Are "Still Alive"

Christmas can bring me some memories. One of them was having a Christmas vacation with the Chiong Sisters Case in mind back in high school. Above is a vandalism I found on Wikipedia (which I take with a grain of salt). Please be reminded Wikipedia is where anyone can edit therefore it's a spurious source. Without her permission, the 2023 photo was most likely taken from Mrs. Thelma Jimenea-Chiong's Facebook. I agree with Marty Syjuco that Mrs. Chiong was the victim of the crime. However, seven innocent people were wrongly tagged as the public demanded answers. There can only be justice for either side once the real culprits are discovered. Some cases happen and the real perpetrators have not yet been found.

I'd like to really point out some simple facts. Let me remind people of the following facts:
  1. Amelie Arquilliano-Chiong was born as Amelie R. Arquilliano. She is the wife of the late Marijoy Jimenea Chiong's brother Bruce. She's in Canada.
  2. The three Chiong sisters namely Marijoy, the late Jacqueline Jimenea Chiong, and Debbie Jane Chiong-Sia are all students at the Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS) near the University of San Carlos (USC). A trip there would prove that there are three of them. Debbie survived her two older sisters.
  3. The other sister-in-law is the wife of Dennis, the second son. Her name is Mitch Beltran-Chiong. Again, I hope that friends of Mitch will defend her in all of these. It's crazy how Mitch is mistaken for Marijoy when she's obviously not her sister-in-law.

Right now, I realized that Debbie may have been my schoolmate. I have a few friends who personally knew her. Some records of the school will prove that Jacqueline is a student of the Univesity of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) while Debbie and Marijoy are both Carolinians (students of USC). The photo above (CTTO, for now) shows that they did have a youngest sister. Why do some people say they're sure that Debbie is Jacqueline? That's a very serious charge. I guess even if the papers (such as birth certificates and academic reports) are shown--such people may act like the late Judge Martin Ocampo with the pieces of evidence that the wrongly accused Francisco Juan G. Larrañaga had for his innocence.

Credit goes to a certain Jean Alcid Herrera on Facebook

I do get irritated when people on Facebook are presenting "proof" that the two are alive. Even worse, they say that they're "sure". Did they even go to Canada to get proof of it? The "proof" was none other than one of the sisters-in-law, Amelie, who migrated with her husband. How can the life of one private citizen be destroyed by a group of MARITESes? Right now, Amelie's pictures aren't proof that Marijoy is alive. Some crimes happen and the real perpetrators are never found

Last 2018, here's a post from someone on Facebook. I'm not going to reveal the name or link the account to protect the person's privacy:

I was 12 years old when the Chiong sisters vanished. Back then, reading newspapers was one of my favorite past times (got the habit from my grandparents).  Any case involving violence against women & children always keep me doubly interested. This particular one, I followed from newspaper reports to the tv reports. I could remember clearly that during the initial report, there was a different lead. But then a star witness appeared out of nowhere, and the arrest of the Chiong seven followed. When that happened, all hell broke loose. It became a media circus! Then I've seen it all on tv... from the presiding judge wearing sunglasses during court proceedings, to the "she's channeling Jackie" scene. The entire trial was a joke! There was no hard forensic evidence against the seven accused, other than the testimony of a convicted felon. And above all, there are evidences and witnesses refuting said claims of the star witness. I just hope that with this petition, we as the Filipino people will finally get to open our eyes and use our minds to fight for truth & justice.  And please stop sharing those posts with pictures of Debbie Chiong claiming that she is her murdered sister. She works for the same company that I used to work for. Yes, they might have some similarities (they're sisters after all). But look at their facial bone structures, particularly the chin. And of course, the age of both women comes into question (unless they found the fountain of youth).  As I said please stop sharing those posts. Why??? It undermines & discredits the work of the people fighting to free Paco & his co-accused. For all we know, the very same people behind these posts are the ones also responsible for those lies and injustice that framed and put the Chiong seven to jail. And, WE should never help them by spreading more lies! But we could help their victims by signing & sharing this petition instead!

Right now, I do believe that the body in Carcar was indeed Marijoy and that Jacqueline's the victim of a no-body murder case. I stand by it that Paco is innocent of the crime just as much as Jacqueline and Marijoy are no longer in this world. There's really no closure on both sides. One family lost their daughters. Another set of families have their loved ones in prison over a crime they never committed.

Reading this, despite the minor error in regards to Davidson, I can see that something is wrong. What if those who are trying to claim the "Chiong Sisters are alive!" may be the same people who are trying to hide the truth. After all, fake evidence is one of the worst things you can do to get someone acquitted or condemned.

Filipinos Calling Indians as "Bumbay"

The song "Dayang Dayang" was given a parody cover called "Dayang Daya". Oftentimes, the song "Dayang Dayang" is thought to be Indian. Instead, it's arguably said to be from Muslim Mindanao or was brought in either from Malaysia or Indonesia. Historically, some of the settlers in the Philippines were Malaysians and Indonesians. So, it's probably safe to say that most Filipinos of brown skin descent are mixed Malay and Indonesian. I was even reminded how I mistook a Malaysian woman for a Filipino woman. Back on topic, the parody song has an introduction that says, "Kami Bumbay galing sa India..." (We're Bombay coming from India). I even tend to refer to Indians as Bombay--something I ended up tactlessly saying during my first trip to Singapore. Many times, Filipinos tend to use Bumbay not as a racial slur but to simply refer to an Indian. Some Filipino-Indians don't even mind being called Bumbay for a reason. I guess they got accust...

Learning About Jose Rizal's Chinese Ancestry (and Blood) Back in High School (and College)

JoseRizal.com Today is Rizal Day, and I found myself admiring him. I don't have his level of genius. Some people often joked that they practiced the Rizal hairstyle. He was only 5.28 feet, which may have been considered tall at that time compared to today's standards. This takes me back in time when my Filipino teacher (forgot her full name) asked, "Do you have to be born a Filipino to be truly Filipino. If we must accept it, Rizal's blood was Chinese." Rizal would be a Chinese mestizo. Look into his history. Rizal's great-great-grandfather was a Chinese immigrant . Those questions forever shook my mind slowly but surely. I'm Chinese by blood, but I was born in the Philippines to Filipino citizen parents, even if my great-grandparents were mostly from China.  Concerning Rizal's ancestor, this is an interesting detail: Domingo Lamco: A Beacon of Resilience Domingo Lamco, also known by his Chinese name Cua Yi-Lam (“Ke Yi-Nan” in Mandarin), was a trailbla...

The Three Drug Mules Executed in China Last March 30, 2011

Al Jazeera Today is March 30, 2026. It has been 15 years since the execution of the three drug mules. Their names are Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, Ramon Credo (who was cremated in China shortly after his execution), and Elizabeth Batain (whose face was never revealed, perhaps due to the loved ones requesting more privacy). Contrary to what one might think, the three drug mules weren't a trio. Instead, they were three separate cases that just happened to be scheduled to die on the same day.  They weren't a trio. They had a temporary reprieve when  former vice president Jejomar Binay tried to save them . Villanueva, together with Ramon Credo and Elizabeth Batain, was scheduled to be executed last month but got a reprieve after Vice President Jejomar Binay traveled to China and personally appealed to Chinese authorities. BBC   News even gave such a short news report, that I felt compelled to copy/paste the whole time as a reference here: Philippine Vice-President Jejomar Bin...

Ifugao OFWs in Taiwan and Discovering More About One's Common Austronesian Roots

I was doing some research on Taiwan finding out that the natives are indeed Austronesians . It seems that Indonesians and Malaysians may have also settled in Taiwan aside from the Philippines. A look at Mt. Alishan and Banaue Rice Terraces have a similarity. Taiwan has its famous tea terraces. Banaue has its famous rice terraces. Both are cultural heritages that must be preserved! I soon found an article which Ifugao OFWs in Taiwan. Not surprisingly, these Ifugao OFWs can point out several things that are pretty similar. An article called " A Gotad Picnic With Ifugaos Living in Taiwan " would tell of Armand Camhol, an Ifugao OFW, who met with other Ifugaos in Taiwan. Gotad is a thanksgiving festival for the Ifugaos. The News Lens International Edition What was noted by Armand at the end of the article is: The people of Ifugao value hospitality, and as a symbol of friendship, they shared their holiday with their invited guests, who, in return, sang, joined the dances, and made...

The Spicy Revolution of Sichuan

When I started doing some research on Chinese food, I got curious about the food of Communist Chinese revolutionaries. I guess it's time to cook with Communism. I tasted Yang Hero at Ayala Central Bloc IT Park. The soup sizes were rather huge so I just went for the rice bowl. It was a full house and I got to taste the food of the revolutionaries. I went for a smoked pork belly rice bowl which I believe was one of Chairman Mao's favorite foods. Mao himself had Sichuan braised pork which is spicier than the Filipino version of humba. Humba is derived from hóngshāoròu which the latter is spicier. I was laughing when I read this interesting piece of information about Mao's love for spicy food as written by Otto Braun :   The shrewd peasant organizer had a mean, even “spiteful” streak. “For example, for a long time I could not accustom myself to the strongly spiced food, such as hot fried peppers, which is traditional to southern China, especially in Hunan, Mao’s birthplace.” Th...
