A Mother's Grief Weaponized via Trial by Publicity

Image
Who can remember the tragedy that happened on July 16, 1997? It was a night when the Chiong sisters, the late Jacqueline Jimenea Chiong and the late Marijoy Chiong, disappeared and were never seen again. It's 2026, and there's the right to doubt the narrative of Davidson V. Rusia . Solita "Winnie" Collas-Monsod even mentioned in Give Up Tomorrow that if the body wasn't the girl then the whole story collapses . Now, it's time to focus on whom the filmmakers Marty Syjuco and Michael Collins called as the first and foremost victim. We have none other than Thelma Jimenea-Chiong. Sadly, her husband Dionisio Chiong died during the pandemic in his sleep without even knowing who really murdered their two daughters. It's a tragedy that exploded on several sides. There were no questions asked that the Chiong parents worried about their daughters not returning home. The daughters weren't known to go home late. The last known information was that they were at Aya...

The Chiong 7 (and David Rusia) were MOST LIKELY Victims of a Conspiracy of Some Anonymous Druglord

A diagram found on Facebook, apparently owned by the late Miguel "Juan" Del Gallego y Ripoll Back in 1997 to 1998, some people may remember what was called the "trial of the decade". It was because on June 16, 1997, two sisters, Jacqueline Jimenea Chiong ( whose body was never found ) and Marijoy Jimenea Chiong , went missing. They were last seen at Ayala Center Cebu. I watched both Case Unclosed   and Give Up Tomorrow . I personally felt that Case Unclosed gave a better view in 30 minutes since it featured other people, like the Uy brothers' mother, Mrs. Marlyn Uy, and other insights from the Chiong mother, Mrs. Thelma Jimenea-Chiong. Give Up Tomorrow showed the angle that the late Dionisio Chiong supposedly lost his job, and on the day he was supposed to testify against a certain drug lord (whose name was beeped out, hence he would be called Mr. Beep), the two daughters disappeared. Until now, I believe that the body in Carcar is Marijoy since nobody else,  bu...

Trial by Publicity Gives an Illusion of "Due Process"

Image
Jourdan Sebastian Some may remember the Chiong Sisters Case as the "trial of the decade". Before that, some may have remembered the Vizconde Massacre . There was one thing in common between the two trials-- trial by publicity!  Both of them already had a public hungry for the verdict,  even when there was a need for due process .  We need to know what due process is. Respicio & Co. defines it as: Query: What is due process in the context of the Philippine legal system? Due process is a fundamental principle in the Philippine legal system, enshrined in the 1987 Constitution. It ensures that individuals are treated fairly and justly by the law, protecting their rights to life, liberty, and property. Due process consists of two essential components: substantive due process and procedural due process. Substantive Due Process Substantive due process pertains to the fairness of the laws themselve s. It requires that laws enacted by the government must be fair, reasonable, ...

What Aesop's Fable "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" Can Teach Us About Law and Order

Image
BYJus Learning It's effortless to talk about  Aesop's Fable titled The Boy Who Cried Wolf . Sure, we have our morals, and it becomes difficult to trust a liar when they tell the truth . However, we need to look at how the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf happened. If we look at the fable, we need to look at the systemic error in the story. It's easy to talk about the boy and getting what he deserves. However, we need to look at the story and see what went wrong, not just with the boy but also the system itself. I decided to write this because of the bomb threat and shooting threat that happened in Cebu City, a few days ago.  We look at the boy crying wolf out of boredom. In Cebuano, we call the "bugal-bugalon na wala sa lugar" or "the out of place prankster". The story had it that the boy kept crying wolf or raising false alarms to entertain himself. The villagers scrambled twice to stop the wolf who wasn't there. The third time the boy raised the al...

The Recent Ayala Central Bloc Bomb Threat and Amending the Anti-Bomb Joke Law

Image
ABS-CBN News Updated: July 05, 2026 I went to Ayala Central  Bloc today, after the recent bomb threat. It should be disgusting that the incident was just a day after the Cebu Eastern College incident on July 2, 2024 . I believe that this might be the  same person, though the identity hasn't been disclosed. Last night, his honor Mayor Nestor Archival with policemen and soldiers, went to the mall to investigate and see if there were any bombs.  The Business Mirror Facebook page gave this update: ALL CLEAR: Authorities have declared Ayala Central Bloc in Cebu IT Park safe after an extensive search found no explosive device following a reported bomb threat on Friday afternoon . The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) announced that the mall was cleared at around 7:49 p.m. after personnel from the PNP Explosive Ordnance Disposal and K9 Unit, CCPO SWAT Team, Bureau of Fire Protection, Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Philippine Army's Explosive Ordnance Disp...

Vizconde Massacre Reveals the Dangers of TRIAL BY PUBLICITY over Due Process of Law

Image
Today is indeed the 35th anniversary of the Vizconde Massacre case . I wrote a previous article where grief was weaponized . The late Lauro Vizconde passed away sometime on February 13, 2016. It was already ten years ago when he died. It's a real pity that Hubert Webb got acquitted but the real killers got free. Grief was weaponized along the way. It was as if you believed that the wrong people were caught, the false dilemma was that you actually support criminals, and that you're not grieving with Lauro.  The Vizconde Massacre Trial, which only started in August 1995, sometime after April 28, 1995. That was when the "star witness" Jessica Alfaro , a self-confessed former drug addict, stepped forward. People were probably either too afraid, too excited, or, in the case of the Vizcondes, they were too perplexed not to notice that Jessica's story wasn't making any sense. However, it happened anyway  when Jessica stepped forward, and the crimes happened. We had t...

The Vizconde Massacre Case Weaponized Grief Via Trial by Publicity

Image
GMA-7 We have to admit that due process isn't about procrastination but about  avoiding jumping to conclusions, while doing something in the process. There's the principle of due process that says that both sides must be heard, that every suspect has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty . Back in the day, I had this judgmental behavior that says, "If it's a criminal, off the go! Due process is cowardice!" I would always raise the late Lauro Vizconde how he left this world with no justice. However, the reality is that Lauro left the world not knowing who murdered his wife and two daughters  before dying. There was no justice for him and the other extended members of his clan. This is the sad fact. What's even sadder is that Lauro's death on February 16, 2016, has the reality that the murderers were never found. For all we know, the murderers may have discreetly left the country before the 1995 trial.  When does grief become the "perfec...
