I may not be going to Taiwan or the Mountain Province any time soon. However, I'm still fascinated by the performances done by both groups. It's no surprise that the DNA tests done would reveal common ancestry between Malaysian, Indonesian, Filipino, and the ethnic groups in Taiwan. The words sound to be very similar to an Ifugao song.


Similar yet different. The dances of the Taiwanese tribes in Taiwan share similaritites with the other ethnic groups in Asia. Above is an Ifugao dance demonstration.

After many years of self-studying the Chiong Sisters Case , I have written several entries on the matter. In fact, I created what I call an "almost-ever-updating" review on Give Up Tomorrow , which was a documentary that challenged my views. I was hesitant to write this review, as it involves another sensitive issue. A Common Sense Challenge to the Supreme Court Decision Regarding the Chiong Sisters Case

Several years ago, Case Unclosed featured an episode about the Chiong Sisters, a few years before Give Up Tomorrow came. One of the things I could say is that GMA-7 is far less biased than ABS-CBN in news reporting. The late Antonio "Tony" Calvento even aired a dramatization of Davidson Rusia's testimony , which had Niño Muhlach play as Juan Francisco "Paco" Larranaga . It's easy to say, "Unlike you, I read the Supreme Court decision." This came out a year after the controversial case involving the late Federico "Toto" Natividad and his controversial film Animal  had ended in 2007. Apparently, Animal (2004),  which was released as Butakal (1999),  still remains banned. As I read through the Supreme Court decision , I confess it's a difficult read . Angat Buhay September 21 can always fill the mind with some thoughts. For Filipinos, it's the commemoration of when the late strongman, Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., declared martial law , seemingly out of a whim . Martial law is still legal in the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines , provided that it has been studied accordingly by the legislature, whether or not it can be approved. For example, former president Rodrigo R. Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao when the Mautes attacked. Now, the rally against corruption in itself isn't inherently wrong . People need to do some peaceful protests , and it doesn't seem that the people were engaging in degrading behavior . Sometimes, we need to have a peaceful protest to be able to make a difference, as was what the late Martin Luther King Jr. did, to secure black rights , and how female rights activists fought to secure equal rights for men and women, such as Susan B. The Trial of the Decade in Cebu City Revisited

  May 5, 1999, was when Cebu City's trial of the decade supposedly ended. There was massive panic when two days after the Chiong sisters, Jacqueline and Marijoy went missing,; a body was found in the ravine of Carcar. Some doubt that the body was really the late Marijoy Jimenea Chiong. In my opinion, the body was hers since nobody has claimed the body. I would like to blog on what I'd call the mistrial of the decade in Cebu City. Although the late Judge Martin Ocampo may be gone, what he did was definitely highlighted in the documentary Give Up Tomorrow . After writing a review of Give Up Tomorrow --I feel the story is far from over as the seven wrongfully tagged suspects continue to remain in the guilty status. Indigenous Dance in Dayuan District, Taiwan

In the quest to know more about Southeast Asia's indigenous people--Taiwan can become a hit destination. This would look like a group of Filipino indigenous dancers but they're from Taiwan. This long dance number may show how the Taiwanese government may have been treating indigenous tribes better than the Philippines. One article I wrote was about how some Filipino natives now have to travel to Taiwan to learn indigenous weaving .  Just watching this video makes me think of what the  Inquirer  cited about Taiwanese indigenous people: TAIPEI—In communities of the indigenous Amis tribe across Taiwan,  locals say lima for five, pito for seven and mata for eye, just like Filipinos . As today is Rizal Day, I was thinking about how it's easy to mock him for what he did. Some say he should've just left the country and never returned. Some people tell me, "If you want to become a hero, why not get shot?" I always said, "Well, if Rizal didn't get shot then our predecessors will not get their freedom!" The Filipinas Heritage Library shares this information about Rizal: While awaiting trial in 1896, Rizal wrote a manifesto that expressed his disapproval of the armed revolution against Spain . He cleared his name, which he said was being used by some revolutionaries to espouse certain ideals. He said that he has always opposed, fought, and made clear that armed revolution was impossible, absurd, and disastrous. The 1978 Batasang Pambansa Proves There was NO Real Parliamentary System

I'm getting tired of people who still insist that the parliamentary system will never work, because it was "tried and tested" during the reign of Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.. However, further data have proven that there was really no parliamentary system . Salvador "Doy" Laurel even mentioned that in Marcos' own words, Marcos was never legitimately installed as president or prime minister. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. even mentioned in his speech in Los Angeles, "We had a parliamentary form of government without a parliament." The government was supposed to be British type, and it went to the French type. Ninoy rightfully called it  80 Days Around the World . To think it over, the role of the president in a parliamentary system is supposed to be purely ceremonial. However, one must look at the comedy of errors  with the Marcos rule. Amis Tribal Feelings Dance

This is another fun tribal dance video. I guess my obsession with Taiwanese milk tea (and the tea leaves are grown from Mt. Alishan) got me into this. Also, the tea brand Tealive (which is a Malaysian brand) got me more interested in this video.  Using Google translate, the song title "部落情懷" (Bùluò qínghuái) means "Tribal Feelings". It's a good thing to have Google translate these days especially when one is trying to learn the Chinese language.

Today is September 21 and it's often remembered as the dark era of history. It's because the late Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. declared martial law. Some people demonize martial law without knowing what it means. Even worse, some people who demonize martial law also say that the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines is "the best in the world". What they don't realize is that martial law can be done, when required, such as when former Philippine president, Atty. Rodrigo R. Duterte declared it during the Marawi siege. Also, martial law is part of the provisions of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines : Section 18 .
