Yes, this is a bizarre case because I'm an MBA graduate. I took my MBA at the University of San Carlos from 2011 to 2014. I finished the course but found myself uninterested in taking a PhD in business administration. Degrees don't really determine success too much. I realized that I have multiple interests, and a history blog came to mind. I want to discuss some turning points in history as well as current events. However, my business and economics blog isn't exactly the best place for casual rants on historical events.
I decided to write this history blog, starting with questioning stubborn boomers. It was also actually one year after Typhoon Odette hit the Visayas and Mindanao. Recovery happened, and people celebrated Christmas that year, unlike the cheerless Christmas last year.
In my case, I decided that writing a history blog will serve the following purpose:
- To show that a person doesn't need credentials like AB History, MA History, or even a PhD in history to understand history. In short, it's all about showing that history is a subject that anyone can take as a hobby if it's not their livelihood.
- To discuss current events when I feel like it. Since history is my hobby, not my livelihood, I would react to current events but expect a few days late. Some events that I reacted to, like Ralph Kingston Ko Cheng's death, are heavy issues that should never be taken lightly.
- To revisit old crime cases like the Chiong Sisters case, a case that started on July 16, 1997. However, it turned out to be that the "star suspect," Francisco Juan G. LarraƱaga, was innocent of the crime. As an ordinary citizen, I feel that a great injustice happened when two sisters lost their lives, and some ordinary citizens are now rotting in jail for a crime they didn't commit.
- To provide some random thoughts on past events. History is a teacher. If we don't learn from it, we're doomed to repeat it.
