Unlearning the Baby Boomer Reactive Healthcare: EASIER Said Than Done

RedStone

I had my thoughts on my current molar crack and the possibility of extraction (if things get worse) or a root canal (which is less invasive, something people are telling me to get). It made me discuss the reactive model of healthcare. Sure, we heard that health is wealth plus prevention is better than cure. However, healthcare was reactive.

Who can remember the slogan back in school, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!"? Sadly, that has caused people to think the medical field of any sort is reactive. In short, I must admit that "We've all been" is a common sentiment. I thought about I didn't go to the dentist in years. My recent trip had a severe prophylaxis that lasted for more than an hour—descaling had to be done along with fluoride treatment. The dentist refused to fix the chip immediately and chose fluoride treatment (which I must admit tasted nearly like candy, so I was told not to swallow), and told me to get a specific type of fasting blood testing before she would do any surgery.

I realized that my current cracked molar (thanks to a piece of cold caramelized banana) could've been prevented. Most of the boomers felt that preventive check-ups were just a doctor's excuse for money. Some may have been open-minded to Healthmax or the like, but use it only as a backup in the reactive healthcare plan. What the boomers didn't realize it that if they do believe that prevention is better than cure—a preventive checkup is actually practicing that.

It made me think that having stuff like six-month maintenance (car and teeth), and time to schedule for general checkups, it would be break the boomer cycle.
